Beyoncé’s 7/11 ‘Selfie’ Music Video

Kim Kardashian attempted to break the Internet earlier this month when she allowed Paper Magazine to publish nude photos of her for their December “Break the Internet” issue. For at least three days — a century in Internet speak — her name was on the tip of every digital tongue across the web. But the conversation shifted swiftly and definitively on Friday, when for the second time in one year, Beyoncé practiced unorthodox proceedings and utilized social media’s democracy to drop a single and accompanying music video without providing context.

Since Friday, Beyoncé’s “7/11″ has garnered 26,382,089 views on YouTube, which is impressive but not unpredictable when considering the star’s clout. What is unique, however, is the actual video, which is effectively a three and a half minute selfie that appends a 15-word song, which will at best become a club hit and at worst, give your mother a headache.

She’s on a terrace, wearing knee pads, acting jovially in a sweatshirt that reads Kale across the front. She’s spinning in a chair and then she’s in a bathroom. She wears full-coverage granny panties with the same demure austerity that she does Givenchy couture (worn under a sweatshirt) and though she’s conceivably goofing off, sometimes with her friends-cum-back-up dancers, other times with a Christmas tree as her leading back-up dancer, the assumption is that whatever we’re seeing has been conceptualized deliberately and marketed for public consumption.

Here’s the thing, though: this semi-crude selfie video, when held up against the highly produced and incredibly styled videos that are typically indicative of a Beyonce production, could theoretically make a much larger statement about the way in which we consume digital entertainment.

Maybe in 2014, it’s no longer really about achieving the most beautiful, or rehearsed “shot” so much as it is making sure that your point is conveyed unflinchingly and clearly.

The video in question, which commanded parallel engagement and enthusiasm vis-a-vis it’s fancier siblings, seems like an old-school nod to creative substance (solid dance moves, a human necessity to connect with, or experience celebration) that is being propelled by the proliferation of technology in a way that is nostalgic but fundamentally only available to be tested as a result of progression. This video stands as an interesting case study on the topic of over-saturation and what that concentration leads to.

If it does, in fact, drive the generation of minimalism, does that mean we’re entering the age of modernist digital content?

His hat, coupled with his typical long haircut, made for one alarming comparison: Harry Styles is actually just a younger version of the Quaker Oats man.

Don’t see the resemblance?

Contemporary Portraits Of London Bus Passengers That Resemble Classical Art Paintings

UK-based street photographer Nick Turpin created a series of evocative portraits of London bus passengers against frosted window panes on freezing winter nights that resemble classical paintings.

To create these poetic pictures from Through a Glass Darkly series, Turpin used a long lens hand with a 1/40th of a second shutter speed to capture the night passengers as they rested against frosted window panes on the bus. The idea was to push the limits of just what modern camera sensors are capable of.

Turpin, who started his own photobook publishing company four years ago, told the British Journal of Photographers that he sees himself as a photographer first and foremost and that he is a reluctant publisher who got into publishing to deal with his frustration with not being able to buy the type of photography he most admired.

Movie Watch : Minions – Official Trailer

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. After accidentally killing off so many of them—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without a master to serve and fall into a deep depression.

But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

The trio embarks upon an adventure that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.

Watch Benedict Cumberbatch Try To Describe ‘Booty’ While Playing ‘Three-Word Stories’ On ‘Fallon’

Jimmy Fallon tried out a new game called Three-Word Stories last night alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and it failed miserably. It made for pretty entertaining TV, but the actual game failed. I throw all the blame on Cumberbatch because of his flimsy knowledge of the booty, something I guess they don’t have in England despite the presence of Pipa Middleton, Lucy Pinder, and Kelly Brook.

We threw away the King-a-England here in the colonies, all so we could easily talk about things like ‘booty’ without having the slimy grip of King George pull us back into some conservative, nanny hellscape. It was all freedom, 24/7 here for us and we we’re ready to make it rain on all the booty we could find, as long as that booty was white, male, and owned land. That makes no sense now, but our the Founding Fathers must’ve been right.

Now we live in a world where late night hosts can play games on advertising dollars and make highly acclaimed actors and actresses dress up in goofy helmets and almost make scat jokes on national TV. A place where I can write nonsensical blabber while also looking up Lucy Pinder on Google. America. Dammit, I love it so.

Dementia-Linked Hallucinations Drove Robin Williams’ Suicide

Robin Williaams

TMZ says it has uncovered what was behind Robin Williams’ suicide: a disease called Lewy Body Dementia, which can cause hallucinations. Lewy Body Dementia is commonly associated with Parkinson’s, which Williams had, and Radar Online reported last week that Williams’ autopsy report revealed that he suffered from it. One symptom is abnormal protein deposits that affect brain function, and people with both Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s often experience side effects—like the aforementioned hallucinations—from Parkinson’s drugs. Sources connected to Williams’ family say that Lewy Body Dementia was the “key factor” behind his suicide, and that his doctors agree. Williams’ wife, Susan, reportedly told authorities he’d been complaining about side effects from his medications before his death.

According to Radar, Williams didn’t know about his Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis when he died, but he was having difficulty sleeping and was “restless due to his Parkinson’s and anxiety issues, which is why he was sleeping in a separate bedroom” from Susan, according to the autopsy report. He was sleeping in his stepson’s room while his stepson was away, and Susan saw him the night before his death. The next day, concerned when he hadn’t come out of the room, she slipped a note under the door, the report says, then eventually popped the lock with a paper clip and found Williams. There was nothing found on his iPhone or iPad to suggest he’d been thinking of suicide, but his iPad had “several tabs open to websites discussing medications, including lyrica and propranolol,” the report reads. There was no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system.

Roommate Dancing While He Thinks No One’s Watching Is AMAZING

They say you should dance like no one’s watching. But if you actually don’t want anyone watching, you should make sure that no one is.

That lesson was learned the hard way by this poor soul in the video below, who was cleaning up after a Halloween party whilst dancing to the Sheena Easton classic “Morning Train (9 to 5),” according to the video description.

The dancing is great and this guy has nothing to be ashamed of. See for yourself below.
